Nestled deep in the hills of Rioja, Finca La Encanada, the “farm in the canyon”, is a 12-hectares coffee farm bordered by the beautiful Tonchima River, planted alongside sugar canes. Dionicio and his family manage the coffee production as well as sugar cane distillation.
Back in 2010, Sustainable Harvest flew the top six finalists of the World Barista Championship to Peru for a week-long reality-TV show ‘Survivor’-like challenges. Scottie was among the challengers. They spent a week surviving the various hardships of producing coffee at the farm, such as hurling bags of coffee, in-parchment, onto donkeys and taking them across town. That was where Scottie became good friends with Adonira, Dionicio, and the whole family ever since.
We love Dionicio’s approach to coffee production and his passion for sustainability and quality improvements. Thus, Fineprint has made a commitment to work with Dionicio, buying his lots on a regular basis and working with his team on experimental varieties.
This is a deliciously sweet and full-bodied coffee, with notes of chocolate, sweet molasses, and mixed nuts.
